Bulls stampede to success

Bulls produced a fine display with both bat and ball to take out the junior cricket grand final last Saturday.

Bulls posted a score of 122 in the decider at the Bull Paddock turf, before restricting Blues to 81.

In an entertaining grand final, Blues got away to a great start when Myles Henman bowled Riley Green for a duck with his first ball.

But Drew Beavan and Lewis Aitken quickly put Bulls on top. Cautious for only a couple of overs, they hit top stride fairly quickly to get the scoring rate above a run a ball.

Beavan finished his innings with a four to retire on 27, while Aitken walked off unbeaten with a well-made 25.

Blues were able to peg back the runs a little thereafter.

Corbyn Oddy removed Scott Cooper for 5, and then Ben Wysman was dismissed by Flynn Piper Bye for 5.

But at 3-85, Bulls had a wonderful platform, and the lower order took advantage.

Adrian O’Rourke (12) and Hammo Clear (14) were among the major contributors as Bulls posted the big total of 122 from their 25 overs.

James Goode was the most economical of the Blues bowlers, while Flynn Piper Bye was outstanding, taking 2-4, and Lachlan Anderson also claimed a couple of scalps.

The Blues run chase began steadily as Nathan Butt and Corbyn Oddy attempted to see off the new ball.

Oddy was the first one dismissed for 8, then Butt (7) went with the score on 23. When Will Goode became Lewis Aitken’s second wicket, it was clear Bulls were on top.

James Goode (8) and Piper-Bye (10) did their best to eat into the total, but didn’t get all that far.

By the 14th over, they’d both departed and Blues were now struggling at 5-45.

Lachlan Anderson (11) tried to defy the opposition attack, but Bulls were on song and continually found the right line and length.

Scott Cooper picked up a neat caught and bowled, while the Bulls also executed a run out late in the innings.

Bulls ultimately took all 10 wickets to cap a complete display.

All the Bulls bowled well, but Lewis Aitken was a standout with 2-4.
