Spring has sprung in Batlow, and there’s no better way to celebrate than by heading down to St John’s Anglican Church for the annual Daffodil Fete on September 16.
Publicity Officer Val Rooney said it was a great opportunity to see the town begin to brighten with the end of winter.
“There is a particular phenomenon at work in the town of Batlow right now, known as the Golden Principle,” she said.
“First there was a random sprinkling of gold, followed by streams, pools and then a virtual flood of colour which will culminate in the resounding crescendo of the grand march to the hall of St John’s on Saturday, September 16, for the annual Daffodil Fete.
“There, these contestants will proudly parade the catwalk clad in their finery, frills and flounces to attract the exacting eyes of the judges who will be seeking absolute perfection in presentation – a truly testing time for the bulbs and blossoms of Batlow.
“There will be something for everyone at St John’s that day!” Attractions will include food, raffles, items for sale, and – of course – lots of daffodils.
“Our cooks are on the job again this year and they are bringing a brand new taste sensation for you to savour,” said Val.
“Take time out from the kitchen, come along and be prepared for this delectable surprise. It will be equally irresistible!
“For the green thumbs there will be masses of seedlings and potted colour, as well as a great variety of plants and shrubs, all eagerly waiting to spread their wings in a garden somewhere. Those pre-loved treasures are already gathering together, ready to crowd their corner, and hoping to be loved once again in a new home. Col will be there with his gourmet hotdogs to whet the appetite, and inside, there will be an amazing selection of cakes and slices for those who enjoy sweet treats.
“Leslie will be there with her monster raffle and many wonderful prizes to be won and of course Ron and Richard will have a load of wood ready to be delivered to the lucky winner. Tickets will be available on Friday, 8th September outside the store.”
There will be all this and much more to “fill up your senses” at St John’s annual Daffodil Fete. Remember the date, September 16. Bring some friends, have a big day out and experience the renewal of life and hope that is heralded by spring.
