THE rain largely held off, the bands rocked on from the early afternoon into the night and everyone had a great time at Rock the Turf 2019 on Saturday.
“Considering the weather we think the event was a great success and this year’s new layout really improved the atmosphere,” organiser Clayton Denson said.
“We haven’t done a final count as yet but the crowd was up on last year.”
Mr Denson was delighted with the reception that the bands and performers, Killing Heidi, Jack Jones, 19Twenty, Velvetsmyle, Home Brew Jack, Jess Crossman, Rockit, The Mighty Yak and Colourz, got from the crowd.
“All the artists who performed went over really well,” Mr Denson said. “It’s really great to see the local bands play on a big stage through such an awesome P.A system; an opportunity that they rarely get.”
The rain wasn’t entirely absent but it held off enough to ensure the event was a success.
“We were blessed,” Mr Denson said.
“A few drops here and there, but it definitely didn’t dampen the crowds enthusiasm.”
Organisers have expressed concerns about the future of the event in years past, but can now surely look to it with more optimism.
“This was our sixth Rock the Turf,” Mr Denson said.
“It takes time to get your name established with these types of events. We are now starting to see the results of six years’ dedication by the hard working committee and because of the fantastic commitment from all our sponsors and volunteers the event will continue to grow.
He believes this was the best Rock the Turf ever.
“Definitely; the event has been fantastic every year but we try to go to another level each time,” he said.
“I would like to thank the awesome committee for their hard work and dedication throughout the year. All the volunteers that automatically turn up on the day to help with whatever needs to be done. We need to thank all the amazing sponsors who have supported Rock the Turf over the last six years. Our sponsors are the reasons RTT is in the position it is today. Their generosity is unbelievable and we hope we can continue to grow with them in the future.
“We also thank the community of Tumut for turning out and supporting the fantastic day.”
