Tumut Hospital relocates patients

Murrumbidgee Local Health District says the Tumut Hospital emergency department is open, after shifting some patients to Gundagai yesterday.

The health district said it had been ensuring adequate supplies of water, and had been getting sprinklers into the roof, as the hospital prepares for heatwave conditions today, and the possibility of fire.

MLHD said activating sprinklers on the roof of the facility yesterday helped clear smoke and improve air visibility within the hospital.

The RFS told residents at a public meeting yesterday that the risk was low to the Tumut township of fire from the Dunns Road blaze.

Bupa relocated its patients from Tumut yesterday morning to Canberra, while aged care facility Blakeney Lodge has also shifted its residents to Wagga.
